Project title: Bee navigation and orientation

Summary: Investigating the mechanisms by which bees navigate and orient themselves in their environment. Do bees have something approaching a cognitive map? Can they use previously learnt spatial information to create novel shortcuts towards their goal? What do bees pay attention to in order to navigate efficiently, and how do landmark affect their navigation behaviour? The aim of this project is to answer some/all of these questions using both lab based and field based studies.
