Managed Service Rollout

Managed Service Rollout Project

The University’s managed rollout service project aims to roll out and adopt a centrally managed service for staff and research students to mitigate the risk of security breaches and ensure our staff can continue to work safely and that Queen Mary data is protected.

The project plans to move around 4,000 staff and research students with Windows laptops or desktops from across the University onto the Queen Mary managed service over a two-year period.

The roll out process will be delivered in a staged approach and it is currently anticipated that SBCS will begin migration and roll out in February 2021.

Whilst this project will only affect Windows desktops and laptops information collated via the survey for individuals with Mac and Linux desktop and laptops will be fed into future projects once they are ready to be rolled out.

Progress so far

In November 2020, all SBCS staff and research students were asked to complete a short survey in order to allow IT Services to assess individual requirements.

We received over 200 responses and colleagues in IT services are now using this data to plan the migration and roll-out in collaboration with the School.

Next Steps

  • The data collected from the survey have been cascaded to the technical teams in the relevant workstreams to review and assess the requirements
  • IT Services to work in collaboration with the School Manager to plan and agree the migration and roll-out schedule

We will continue to update this page with information on the project as it becomes available.

You can find out more information on the wider managed rollout service project here.
