Queen Mary Academy

2021 competition

The 2021 Queen Mary 3MT® Final took place on Zoom on 16 June 2021 and we were once again joined by PhD students, staff, and family and friends of the six finalists from around the globe.

The six finalists were selected as the top two entries from each of our Faculties after participating in the 3MT® Faculty Heats in April 2021.

The judges selected Alena Vdovchenko from the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences as the Queen Mary winner. The title of Alena's winning pitch, which also received the People's Choice Award, was 'Key to the Brain: Open your Mind to Drugs!'. The runner-up prize went to Josephine Carpentier from the Barts Cancer Institute.

Alena competed against 60 other PhD students from across the UK at the Vitae 3MT® quarter-final and was selected as one of the top 6 entries to compete in the final. This was the second year in a row that the Queen Mary 3MT® winner had reached the national final.

The Vitae 3MT® final took place on 10 September 2021 during Connections Week 2021. You can watch a recording Alena's fantastic pitch below.
