Modernising Copyright through the lens of Internet Memes

Summary of Research

Brian is a PhD Researcher and Teaching Associate at the School of Law, Queen Mary University of London. Prior to joining Queen Mary, Brian worked in an international law firm in London.

 

Brian's research focus is on UK and EU copyright and internet laws. Alongside his research, Brian is a Teaching Associate and Guest Lecturer for copyright modules. Brian is also a Research Assistant for Prof. Uma Uthersanen and Prof. Gillian Davies (Copyright and the Public Interest), Editor-in-Chief of Queen Mary Law Journal (QMLJ), Tutor for the EUIPO Pan-European Seal Project, EIPIN advisor for LLM students. As volunteer researcher in ‘Artificial Intelligence and Artificial Person: A Multidisciplinary Study’, he drafted UKRI funding proposals and submitted a joint response for 'UK Parliament call for evidence AI governance' with the team. 

 

Academically, Brian received an LLM from University College London (UCL) with a distinction and an LLB (Hons) from the University of Birmingham where he received the Birmingham Law School Excellence Scholarship for three years. In addition, he completed the final vocational stage of training to become a qualified solicitor in England and Wales. As part of the qualification, he received an MSc in Law, Business and Management from the University of Law (London). Alongside his PhD, Brian completed a Master’s level accredited qualification with Queen Mary that leads to Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

 

In his spare time, Brian enjoys doing pro bono work. He leads student reflection sessions at the Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre (Breakfast Club) and teach in Contextual Offer Schemes (Pathways to Law and RO programme). He also loves trekking along canals and exploring marshlands and forests.
