The (Impossible) Journey of Photography: How Copyright Affects the Meaning-Making in the Process of Circulation

Summary of research

Ekiz’s research focuses on copyright law’s impact on the recontextualisation of photography. Drawing on the contextual studies on photography, Ekiz looks forward to gather and analyse qualitative data regarding the law’s impact on three professions’ engagement with photography: art historians, curators, and photography editors.

Biography

Ekiz is a lawyer from Turkey. He graduated with distinction from Queen Mary’s Intellectual Property Law LLM Program. Ekiz also publishes and exhibits his works of photography and photo-collages. He was awarded a Queen Mary Research Studentship (2019-2022), and previously was the recipient of the BLACA/Stationers Bursary Award (2017).

Ekiz is one of the Teaching Associates for the Jurisprudence module in the 2020/21 education year.

Ekiz undertook the role of the Teaching Associate in the 2019/20 education year for the following modules: The Law of Film, Intellectual Property and Fashion: Art and Culture, Intellectual Property and Fashion: Law and Business, Music Industry Contracts.

Ekiz is one of the assistant editors of Queen Mary Law Journal.

Research
