Congratulations on receiving an offer to study at Queen Mary University of London, and welcome to the first edition of the EU and International offer-holder newsletter.

I am emailing you today from the International Office at QMUL. We are responsible for providing support to our overseas over holders from within the UK, across Europe and around the world. We will email you further newsletters every few weeks until September, when we hope you will enrol with us. These newsletters should help you to stay up-to-date and prepared for enrolling at QMUL.

This first newsletter introduces the team and provides our contact details. It also includes brief details concerning two imminent priorities: applying for accommodation, and paying a deposit (if a deposit is necessary for your course).

You may also find our social media channels useful, links are included above. They are regularly updated with information for offer-holders, including for example details of our forthcoming pre-departure briefing sessions taking place around the world between now and September.

What next?

Our future newsletters will focus on key themes relating to the time of year, for example, submitting results, applying for a Visa (if necessary), budgeting to live in the UK etc.

For now, we would like to highlight two processes which you might now be considering: applying for accommodation, and paying a deposit (where a deposit is necessary).

Applying For Accommodation

QMUL students are welcome to live wherever they choose, although many believe that living in a student community provides an important aspect of experiencing university life.

You still have time to consider your options because applications are not yet open, but we expect applications to open in the next few weeks.

Please note, you will only be able to apply for college accommodation once you have firmly accepted your offer (regardless of whether your offer is conditional or unconditional). The username and password that enable you to apply will be emailed to you by our admissions office once you have firmly accepted your offer.

Please check our website for further information regarding accommodation application deadlines and procedures, allocation criteria, and more. There is also some information included regarding living in alternative student accommodation.

We will also email you a specific newsletter in April which will focus on accommodation.

Tuition Fees

You can find the tuition fees for 2017/18 online. Please check our undergraduate tuition fees here, and our postgraduate-taught tuition fees here.

There are no deposits required for undergraduate courses, but deposits are required for some foundation and taught-postgraduate courses.

There are different rules for UK/EU students and International students. Please see your relevant section below:

UK/EU Fee Payers

Certain postgraduate-taught courses require a deposit. The value of the deposit will be either £500 or £2,000.

You can find more information regarding UK/EU student deposits here. This includes a directory of the courses that require a deposit, and the value of the deposit required.

Our admissions office will send you an email with further information later in the year if we require a deposit from you.

Overseas Fee payers (Non-EU)

All overseas-fee-paying offer-holders are required to pay a £2,000 deposit in order to join any taught postgraduate or foundation course. Students should only pay a deposit once their offer has been firmly-accepted and they have met the conditions described in their offer.

You can find more information regarding International student deposits here. This includes instructions regarding how to pay, and some basic information regarding the CAS process.

The admissions office will send you a reminder email when you are required to pay a deposit.

Where a deposit is necessary, students should only pay once they have firmly-accepted their offer and they have met all of the conditions described in their offer i.e. when the offer become unconditional.

We do not require a deposit from students whose fees will be paid by a government sponsor. However, we do require a formal letter from their sponsor confirming the arrangement.

We will also email you a specific newsletter in April which will focus on deposits and invoices.
