Money Matters

We are sure that you are already planning how you will pay for your tuition fees and living costs during your programme of studies, but nonetheless we would like to reassure you that our QMUL Advice and Counselling Service is here to help!
We want you to be able to fully concentrate and enjoy your studies at QMUL, so please read their guidance to minimise the risk of you experiencing any financial problems when you are in the UK.
Living in London
If you are new to living in London, you can use our detailed budget planner to find out what the cost of living is and how much you might need to spend on certain items.

You can adapt the spreadsheet to your own circumstances to create a personal budget plan to help manage your spending. You can also read useful money saving ideas.

You will be emailed an invoice stating your tuition fee amount, or you can check this online
Arriving in the UK
When you arrive in the UK, you will probably want to open a bank account. There is information on our website to help you understand how to do this, for example what documents you will need, and what types of accounts are available, as well as important information about banking safely.
Please remember that it can take several days or even weeks to open an account so you are advised to bring enough money with you for the first few weeks. There is information on the UKCISA website about bringing money to the UK.
 Further guidance
If you need any guidance about how much money you need to show as part of your Tier 4 immigration application, or what evidence you need to provide, we have detailed guidance on our website.

There is very little funding available if you have serious financial difficulties during your stay in the UK, other than if you have a short term unexpected financial emergency – you will find information on our website about financial options during your studies.

If after using our resources you find that you need individual advice about your money, you can contact a Welfare Adviser in the Advice and Counselling Service. You can do this before you arrive, and throughout your studies.
