The Award

Applications for the 2023/24 academic year are now closed. Enrolment of new HEC scholars has been paused until September 2024 at the earliest.

The jointly funded scholarships will cover the tuition fees and provide a stipend of £1,015/month to contribute towards the scholar’s living costs.

Please note that this stipend will not cover living costs in full and does not meet the level of financial support necessary to secure a UK visa (currently £1,334/month). You will therefore need to secure additional funding in order to be able to take up your studies at Queen Mary. For further details of the requirements set out by UK Visas and Immigration, please see-https://www.welfare.qmul.ac.uk/guides/student-funds/

How to Apply

Applications are now closed

  1. You should first apply to HEC Pakistan.
Their schemes have several calls for applications throughout the year, so please check their website for the details of the dates and subject criteria for each call.
  2. If you are shortlisted by HEC, you should then apply to QMUL online before 31st March 2023 for admission onto a PhD programme. Full details of how to apply are available online. Candidates are advised to contact potential supervisors via email before submitting an online application. This will enhance your chances of selection. Please make sure to include your evidence of shortlisting in your application.
  3. If the proposed supervisor is interested in your proposal and you meet the eligibility requirements for the programme, you will then be interviewed online
  4. Following the interview, if the supervisor wishes to take the candidate on they will ask the department to make an offer
  5. Please note that due to individual school allocations and limitations on the number of HEC scholarships there will not be the capacity to make offers of scholarship to all those approved by a supervisor. All successful applicants will be notified by the end of May/early June 2023.
  6. If you are made an offer, admissions will send you an email. You should then give this to HEC who will generate a Provisional Award Letter.
  7. After reviewing all HEC offer holders schools will award scholarships accordingly. Please note that due to individual school allocations and limitations on the number of HEC scholarships there will not be the capacity to make offers of scholarship to all those approved by a supervisor.
