You will become familiar with and learn about theories and methods of understanding international politics. You will benefit from an intellectually stimulating programme which will give you an advanced understanding of state, non-state, governmental and non-governmental actors doing international politics in the contemporary world. The focus of this unique programme is to learn how these actors perform international politics and how theories and methods can be used to understand their actions. The programme involves a field experience where you will engage some of these actors as part of your learning process and share this learning in a collaborative seminar with your teachers and peers. Although proficiency in French is not an entry requirement for the BA in International Politics, you will have the chance to learn a new language by opting for non-credit-bearing supplementary courses in French (for those without GCSE or equivalent), or by opting for a Minor in French Studies (for those who have GCSE/A2 Level French or higher qualification), options that will stand you in good stead for a wide variety of careers and working life. Advanced Entry Subject to the policy of the programme, it may be possible for students to join undergraduate degree programmes at the beginning of the second year of a three or four year degree programme or, sometimes, the beginning of the third year of a four year programme. A few modules are assessed by coursework only. If a module is assessed by means of coursework alone, this is usually in the form of a research project or dissertation, and the tutor project supervisor offers guidance and support in the researching and writing of this piece of assessment. As a student at QMUL-ULIP, you will play an active part in your acquisition of skills and knowledge. Teaching is by a mixture of small group seminars and field experience. The seminars are designed to generate informed discussion around set topics, and may involve student presentations, group exercise and role-play as well as open discussion. We take pride in the close and friendly working relationship we have with our students. You are assigned an Academic Adviser who will guide you in both academic and pastoral matters throughout your time at QMUL-ULIP. For every hour spent in seminars you will be expected to complete a further 2-3 hours of independent study. Your individual study time could be spent preparing for, or following up on formal study sessions; reading; producing written work; completing projects; and revising for examinations. The direction of your individual study will be guided by the formal study sessions you attend, along with your reading lists and assignments. However, we expect you to demonstrate an active role in your own learning by reading widely and expanding your own knowledge, understanding and critical ability. Learning Labs and Field Experience Learning Labs involves field experience where you will engage actors of international politics to develop an advanced understanding of practical aspects of international politics. You will then bring this experience back to the seminar to collaborate with your peers and teachers on experience-based learning projects.
