Dr Stijn van Kessel was interviewed on The Anthill (listen from 12 minutes 17 seconds) a podcast from The Conversation, on the effect far-right forces such as Golden Dawn in Greece and Lega in Italy are having on other political parties across Europe. He said: “In most European countries, unlike the UK, they have proportional representation in the electoral system which means… it’s very hard for single parties to win the absolute majority of the seats, hence the need to form coalitions. This is one sign of the mainstreaming of radical rights politics.”
