Philip Cowley, with some help from YouGov, asked people how they would vote in the EU referendum if it were to make them richer or poorer – and measured the results. “If people think they will be better off out, then leave wins. But if people think they’ll be better off staying in the EU, then there’s a majority for remain,” he explained.
