Dr Rainbow Murray It was not their year

14 December 2016

Dr Rainbow Murray was interviewed for a major Brazilian daily on the topic of women world leaders in 2016. She argued that while 2016 has not been a good year for female world leaders, it is not all bad news - for example, Britain gained a female leader in Theresa May, while Angela Merkel has declared that she will run for a fourth term. She also argues that while sexism has undoubtedly contributed to the difficulties that women world leaders have faced, 2016 has been a difficult year for leaders of both sexes, and one reason why more women have struggled is simply because there are more women in power than there used to be.
