Widening participation travel bursary

Queen Mary is committed to supporting students from traditionally under-represented backgrounds in higher education.

COVID-19 update:

Please note that our Open Day will now be held online, and you should not travel to Queen Mary campuses. The travel bursary is not currently available. [Alternative support may be available, and we will update this page as soon as more information is available.] For general information about Queen Mary's response to coronavirus, please see qmul.ac.uk/coronavirus.

The bursary

Our Widening Participation Travel Bursary aims to bring students who have specific characteristics typically under-represented in higher education on to campus for Open Days, Taster Days and Offer Holder Days. This means students can make informed choices about their future and explore the options available to them.

The bursary will cover reasonable travel costs on public transport for qualifying individuals.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Widening Participation Travel Bursary, you must:

  • Attend a non-selective state school in the UK
  • Have achieved, or be predicted to achieve, the required GCSE grades (a minimum of 5A* - C or 4 – 9 grades, with a C/4 in English and Maths)
  • Be on target to achieve a minimum of BBB at A-level, or equivalent

In addition to the above, you must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Live in a qualifying neighbourhood (use our postcode checker below)
  • Have lived, or are currently living, in local authority care
