Dr Emma Barrett is an Honorary Research Fellow in History at the University of Birmingham and was the 2020-21 Antcliffe Fellow at Churchill College, Cambridge. Her research focuses on Thatcherism; the 1980s financial revolution; elites and networks of power; and gender and the City of London. Her work on the experiences of women working in Britain’s finance industry seeks to influence national debate on gender equality and working practices. Emma worked on the negotiation and roll-out of NHS reforms in the 1990s. She is a former partner of a corporate law firm and returned to academia in 2014.
