Queen Mary University of London is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Julia Hippisley-Cox as the inaugural Professor of Clinical Epidemiology and Predictive Medicine in the Wolfson Institute of Population Health. She will join the University from the beginning of February.
Professor Hippisley-Cox is a Clinical Professor currently at the University of Oxford. She qualified in Medicine from Sheffield and was awarded a MD in by the University of Nottingham where she was also appointed as Professor of Clinical Epidemiology and General Practice. She moved to a Professorship at the University of Oxford in 2019. In 2023 she was appointed as Fellow of the Academic of Medical Sciences and an NIHR Senior Investigator.
Julia Hippisley-Cox is an internationally recognised expert in the development, validation and implementation of clinical prediction models and evaluation of risks and benefits of medicines, for which she has received numerous awards.
She co-founded the QResearch database, one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive medical research databases encompassing over 40 million patient records. This has been widely used for novel medical research covering a wide range of clinical topics. She also developed clinical risk prediction tools such as QRISK which is used by widely across the NHS to assess risk of a heart attack or stroke to identify people for prevention.
