The event, Pioneering the Future: Introducing a New Framework for Europe’s Hydrogen and Gas Market Decarbonisation, brings together policymakers, regulators, legal scholars and industry leaders to examine the evolving legal and regulatory frameworks for Europe’s energy transition.
Professor Cameron, who is also a co-founder of the UK Energy Law and Policy Association (UKELPA), will deliver the introductory remarks, setting the stage for a day of expert panels and keynote speeches from figures including Kitti Nyitrai, Head of Unit at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy.
Reflecting on the UK’s involvement, Professor Cameron said:
“This is a dynamic and evolving market that can play a key role in decarbonising the sector. To make it work though, regulation for cross-border growth needs to be flexible, not rigid, when applied to the newer technologies.”
He will also moderate a session on best practices and challenges for national implementation of the EU Hydrogen and Gas Markets Decarbonisation Package. This legislative initiative aims to create a competitive, secure and sustainable energy future across the continent.
The conference is hosted by the European Federation of Energy Law Associations (EFELA), a network of national associations dedicated to promoting research, reflection and discussion on the development of modern energy law. EFELA’s mission is to enhance the coherence of legal and regulatory frameworks across Europe and support the creation of more efficient energy markets.
The conference takes place on 3 June 2025 at the Conference Centre Albert Borschette in Brussels and will also be livestreamed. Attendance is free, but registration is required for both in-person and online participation via www.efela.eu.
