The LIDC team will guide two of the UK’s major research councils, the AHRC and the ESRC, to develop a shared strategy for research on migration and displacement.

The project will draw on the expertise of a wide range of migration scholars throughout its member colleges and particularly those linked to Queen Mary’s Centre for the Study of Migration, SOAS’s Centre for Migration and Diaspora Studies, UCL Institute of Education, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and City, University of London.

Conversations

The Migration Leadership Team will engage in a series of ‘global migration conversations’ – workshops, one-on-one interviews, and panel discussions with researchers, policy-makers, practitioners, migrant associations and arts organisations.

The team will identify areas of research to prioritise, and platforms for communication and collaboration that are likely to help connect research, policy and public engagement. These ‘global migration conversations’ will take place in the UK, Brussels, Delhi, Nairobi, and Washington DC.

“More than one billion people are estimated to be migrants, and migration considerations underlie electoral politics, foreign policy, national and international security, and international humanitarian and development aid. In terms of the political environment, this project could hardly be more timely.” says Professor Datta.
