About the Centre for Discrete Mathematics

The Centre for Discrete Mathematics is a new initiative to encourage both mathematical and interdisciplinary approaches to the field, within Queen Mary and in collaboration with other centres of excellence worldwide. In broad terms, Discrete Mathematics studies finite structures, such as networks, which are both fundamental mathematical objects and ubiquitous in everyday life. It is an area of strength across departments in the college, particularly in Pure and Applied Mathematics, Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, and also including researchers in the School of Business and Management and the School of Medicine and Dentistry.

The core purpose of the CDM  is to promote existing research groups within discrete mathematics to further enhance our involvement and research with other schools and centres within QMUL and other institutions.

An initial focus of the Centre was an interdisciplinary seminar that drew together researchers with many different perspectives on the theory and applications of Discrete Mathematics. However, there are regular seminars and workshops in all of the above research areas which are listed on our web pages.
