Publisher Open Access Agreements

Queen Mary University of London has a number of deals and agreements with publishers to help reduce costs and streamline the process of open access publishing. Access to some of these agreements are dependent on your research funder while others may be available to all Queen Mary authors. Details below provide more information for those looking to submit articles to these publishers. 

If the publisher you are interested in is not listed or you would like to recommend a publisher membership, please contact the Repository and Research Information Team.

Not all publisher policies will be in line with your research funder's policy on open access, please see our information on Open Access and your funder.

The ACS offers discounts to offset against future open access charges each time you publish with them. 

ACS Author Rewards 

For each ACS article you have published, you should receive two $750 voucher codes sent by the society.

You can then redeem the vouchers via RightsLink.

The Library does not currently have an agreement with this publisher.

The Library currently has an agreement with Bioscientifica that entitles articles submitted by all Queen Mary correspondence authors, irrespective of funding, to be published at 50% discount in any hybrid journal to which the Library has a subscription.

Currently these are: Journal of Endocrinology, Journal of Molecular Endocrinology, Endocrine-Related Cancer, European Journal of Endocrinology, Reproduction.

The Library currently has an open access publishing agreement with BMJ Publishing. 

This agreement covers accepted papers in hybrid journal titles that are funded by the following research funding organisations:

Arts and Humanities Research Council
Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council
Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council
Economic and Social Research Council
Medical Research Council
Natural Environment Research Council
Science and Technology Facilities Council

British Heart Foundation
Cancer Research UK
Wellcome Trust

When submitting a paper to BMJ Publishing you should use your university email address and list Queen Mary University of London as your affiliated institution. If eligible the publisher will contact the Library for open access approval.

If you are publishing in an Open Access journal or your paper is funded other than in the above list please contact the Repository & Research Information Team prior to submitting your paper to ensure you are eligible for funding.

Frontiers is an open access publisher. Publishing fees are required for all accepted articles.

The Library's current agreement with this publisher extends only to accepted articles acknowledging funding from:

  • UKRI
  • British Heart Foundation
  • Cancer Research UK
  • Wellcome Trust

The School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science has purchased a number of credits to cover publications fees for authors within the school for papers published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Please ensure you have spoken to the Repository and Research Information Team prior to submitting your paper to ensure you are eligible for funding.

The Library is part of a subscription agreement with Microbiology Society that entitles all Queen Mary authors, irrespective of funding, to a discount of up to 15% off OpenMicrobiology fees. Additionally, for JMM Case Reports, corresponding authors within an institution with an active subscription to Journal of Medical Microbiology receive a 50% discount to the OpenMicrobiology fee.

The Library has a Pre-Payment account with Oxford University Press.

When submitting a paper to Oxford University Press you should use your university email address and list Queen Mary University of London as your affiliated institution. Oxford University Press will then contact the Repository and Research Information Team for confirmation.

Please ensure you have spoken to the Repository and Research Information Team prior to submitting your paper to ensure you are eligible for funding.

The Library currently has an open access publishing agreement with the Royal Socirty of Chemistry. 

When submitting a paper to the Royal Socirty of Chemistry you should use your university email address and list Queen Mary University of London as your affiliated institution. If eligible the publisher will contact the Library for open access approval.

The Library currently has a Membership to the Royal Society that provides a 25% discount on all open access fees for Queen Mary authors irrespective of research funding body.
When submitting papers to the Royal Society please ensure you use your university email address and list Queen Mary University of London as your affiliated institution, so that the Royal Society can apply the membership discount.

The Library currently has an open access publishing agreement with Sage Publishing. 

This agreement covers accepted papers in hybrid journal titles.

When submitting a paper to Sage Publishing you should use your university email address and list Queen Mary University of London as your affiliated institution. If eligible the publisher will contact the Library for open access approval.

If you are publishing in an Open Access journal with Sage please contact the Repository & Research Information Team prior to submitting your paper to ensure you are eligible for funding.

The Library currently has an open access publishing agreement with Springer Nature. 

This agreement covers accepted papers published in Springer Natures Transformative Journal titles.

When submitting a paper to Springer Nature you should use your university email address and list Queen Mary University of London as your affiliated institution. If eligible the publisher will contact the Library for open access approval.

The Library currently has an open access publishing agreement with Taylor & Francis Publishing.

When submitting a paper to Taylor & Francis you should use your university email address and list Queen Mary University of London as your affiliated institution. If eligible the publisher will contact the Library for open access approval.

The Library currently has an open access publishing agreement with Wiley Publishing. 

When submitting a paper to Wiley Publishing you should use your university email address and list Queen Mary University of London as your affiliated institution. If eligible the publisher will contact the Library for open access approval.

Wiley also publish a number of Society publications. These societies often charge additional publication fees that the library cannot pay for and will need to be met by you even if the open access fees are covered by our agreement.
