What does this mean for us?

We have been ranked joint 7th in the UK for the quality of our research, a fantastic achievement.  92% of Queen Mary’s research has been assessed as internationally excellent or world leading.

What does this mean for you?

Universities are based on knowledge.

Research is the process of discovering or creating new knowledge.  So, through our research, Queen Mary is at the cutting edge of knowledge creation.  The education we provide is led by world-class academics: our students are taught by the people who wrote the textbooks.  Our educators are equipped to meet the needs of diverse learners, and can support students to achieve their full potential and be leaders in their chosen fields.  Our students are well placed to be the next generation of world leading researchers.  Or perhaps the next generation of innovative entrepreneurs.  Or world changing policy makers.  The doors of opportunity are wide open.

What have Queen Mary students been working on?

Queen Mary PhD students have been taking part in the Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition since 2014, in which they have just three minutes to tell a non-specialist audience about their research and results. Watch our 2022 finalists present their findings, learn about the ground breaking research happening at Queen Mary and perhaps be inspired to enter the competition yourself one day!

… I am pleased that we have once again shown that world-leading research and an unwavering commitment to social mobility and justice are not mutually exclusive.
— Professor Colin Bailey, President and Principal at Queen Mary University of London
