#QMReady podcast series
Produced as a collaboration between Academic Skills Enhancement and members of the Queen Mary Students' Union Executive Team, the #QMReady podcast series is designed to get you ready for the new academic year. In each episode, students and academic staff share their experiences and advice about one of the main challenges of academic life, such as referencing and critical thinking.
Episode 1: I Wish I Knew
This episode is all about thinking back to things people wish they knew when starting at Queen Mary. You will hear a number of testimonials from various people across the university, pondering the question: What do I wish I knew?
Episode 2: Get Credit
This episode explores the importance of giving academic credit, the story of Henrietta Lacks whose cancer cells were stolen for medical research while she was not given recognition; and the importance of accurate representation. You will also learn some tips for referencing properly.
Episode 3: Believe It Or Not
This episode explores the idea of critical thinking, what it means and how it can be applied in universe(ity). We touch on the flaws of dogmatism, the beauty of Science and religion, rationality and Law and limitless avenues of English. In a world of misinformation, fake news and misdirection, the question remains: Do you believe it, or not?
Episode 4: Fast and Slow
This episode will introduce listeners to Kahneman’s Thinking Fast and Slow, and system 1 and 2 of thinking. You will learn about the importance of critical reflection and evaluation in the university environment.
Episode 5: Beyond the Classroom, Part 1
This episode features a collection of stories of learning outside the classroom that students have experienced while at university. These include field trips and studying abroad, encouraging women in tech, internships and the international student experience. Be inspired to take your learning further!

Episode 6: Get Schooled
This episode focuses on students’ experiences with peer learning in each of Queen Mary’s three faculties. You’ll hear about using criticism to elevate performances in Drama, an astrophysic student's experience with the array of cultures at QM and how to keep cool under pressure from two medical students. We also learn about the great resources QM has to support peer learning.
Episode 7: On the Clock
This episode will be centred around time management techniques and procrastination. You will hear tips and advice from a couple guests based on their experiences and the importance of effective time management.
