Photograph of a page from the People's Palace Technical Schools calendar, Day Department 1892-1893. The page showing hours of attendance

The Day Department was intended to teach vocational skills to local boys from low income families.

Classes were open to boys over the age of 12, from public elementary schools of the district, who had passed the 5th standard or an examination, and whose parents had a take home income less than £400 per annum.

The Technical Schools were opened in October 1888 (located within the Queen’s Building). By 1893 there were 350 boys attending the school.
