One-to-one support

Get individual guidance on your studies from an Academic Skills tutor or an RLF Fellow

Our one-to-one support offers students practical guidance in developing insights and practices that will contribute to their success at Queen Mary.

We offer individual support for students in a variety of formats — in person and online — on issues including:

  • Academic writing
  • Reading effectively
  • Note-making
  • Lecture skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Working in groups
  • Exam and revision skills
  • Time management
  • Using feedback
  • Referencing
  • Academic integrity

Types of support

Tutorials are consultations with an Academic Skills tutor that last 1 hour or 20 minutes. They are currently being conducted online.

Drop-ins take place from 2-4pm on Thursdays during term time. You don't need to book in advance, but may need to wait a short while to be seen if it's busy. And the consultation is limited to 20 minutes if other students are waiting.

RLF Tutorials

Our resident Royal Literary Fund (RLF) fellows offer writing tutorials online for Queen Mary students. RLF fellows are published writers who can help students from any discipline, particularly with matters of style and structure.
