Queen Mary Legal Innovation Society

Queen Mary Legal Innovation Society (QMLIS) is a student-led society which specifically focuses on legal tech and the latest innovative trends within the legal world.

Our main aim is to keep our members up to date with the different changes caused by the impact of technological developments within the legal industry while also equipping them with the necessary skills to thrive as a lawyer in the new digital age. Besides, we seek to teach students the know-how on the application of legal technology and incite their curiosity into this area so that they are better at adapting to the legal market of the future.

Our work had been well-recognised and was awarded the ‘Society of the Year Innovation Award 2021’ by Bright Network and the Golden Trophy Award 2022 by the Queen Mary Students’ Union.

What does QMLIS do?

We organise various events and workshops with law firms and legal tech companies that aim to educate students about different uses of technology and different trends in the legal industry and in addition to gain practical skills through workshops in no-code automation, hackathons etc. We educate the students by providing them with QMLIS Briefs on our social media accounts. In the 2022/2023 academic year, QMLIS will launch its own website and QMLIStream offering exclusive content for its members.

Our flagship event of the year is the Queen Mary Legal Tech Academy. The QMLTA is an annual series of events organised by QMLIS. Over few weeks, Queen Mary students are given the opportunity to attend several events focused on legal tech and to hear from prominent figures in the industry in a series of workshops and panel presentations.

How can you get involved?

Anyone can join our society by purchasing a membership from our page on the QMSU website. This will give them access to all QMLIS events, the website and QMLIStream.

Furthermore, students can join the QMLIS committee and participate in the running of the society, organising events, creating content for our website and mainly in developing their understanding of legal technology.
