Dr Leonidas K Cheliotis guest-edits a high-profile special issue of Criminology and Criminal Justice on ‘Neoliberalism and Penality’

Dr Leonidas K Cheliotis has guest-edited a high-profile special issue (volume 10, issue 4) of Criminology & Criminal Justice, the official journal of the British Society of Criminology, on ‘Neoliberalism and Penality: Reflections on the Work of Loïc Wacquant’.

In the collection, a number of scholars debate from their diverse vantage points the link between neoliberal socioeconomic policies and punitiveness, as this is analysed by Loïc Wacquant in his latest books.

Contributors (in alphabetical order): Leonidas K Cheliotis, Stanley Cohen, Loraine Gelsthorpe, Martin Jones, Ian Loader, David Nelken, Tim Newburn, Richard Sparks, Sappho Xenakis.

Nearly all articles published in the collection were previously presented as papers at a ‘Symposium on Neoliberal Penality’ that was organised by Dr Cheliotis under the auspices of the Criminal Justice Centre at the School of Law, Queen Mary, University of London, on 7 October 2009.
