Professor Geraldine Van Bueren writes on the Universal Declaration for the Times Literary Supplement

16 January 2019

Professor Geraldine Van Bueren published an article for the Times Literary Supplement on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which was adopted by the United Nations 70 years ago. She writes: “The myths surrounding the Declaration are dangerous because they are disempowering. The Universal Declaration offers an alternative to globalization dominated by greed: globalization with a human face. Had US administrations paid greater heed to the socio-economic rights it protects, then many of those who feel ignored and excluded might not have sought reassurance from Donald Trump as a presidential candidate, and the simultaneous resurgence of the extreme Right would have had less fuel for its grievances.” Read the full article here. (subscription required)
