Professor Geraldine Van Bueren to chair: Celebrating 25 years of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)

Professor Geraldine Van Bueren QC is to chair 'Celebrating 25 years of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)' on 20 November, a seminar held by Doughty Street Chambers to  mark 25 years since the UNCRC was adopted by Resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations. Professor Van Bueren QC is one of the original drafters of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and Co-Director of the Human Rights Collegium at Queen Mary University of London. 

The seminar will analyse the UNCRC, a quarter of a century on, and its impact in the UK. Topics explored will include: The rights protected by the UNCRC, How implementation of UNCRC rights in England compares with other nations, Children's rights theory and its relevance to the practice of children's rights and judicial decision-making, Children’s rights in the courts: recent case law and upcoming developments, Children’s rights campaigns: case studies by Just for Kids Law.

Speakers include Professor Kathryn Hollingsworth, University of Newcastle, Jenny Driscoll, King’s College London, Shauneen Lambe, Just for Kids Law and Caoilfhionn Gallagher, Barrister, Doughty Street Chambers.
