Human Rights Collegium Lecture: 'What's Wrong with Human Rights?'

22 November 2016

Time: 6:30 - 9:00pm
Venue: Ground floor lecture theatre, ArtsTwo Building, Queen Mary University of London, Mile End Road E1 4NS United Kingdom

This event is hosted by the Human Rights Collegium at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL).

Chair: Professor Geraldine Van Bueren QC.

Joshua Rozenberg QC (hon) has been covering the European Court of Human Rights since the days when the only way of finding out what the court had decided was to fly to Strasbourg. For years now, successive UK governments have tried to limit their obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights. And reform or even repeal of the Human Rights Act 1998 is now back on the political agenda. Will anything change? Aided by his reporter’s notebook and a rather cloudy crystal ball, Joshua asks what’s wrong with human rights.

About the Speaker

Joshua Rozenberg QC (hon) is the only full-time journalist to have been appointed as Queen’s Counsel honoris causa. Joshua is known for his independence, his authority and his ability to explain complicated legal issues with simplicity, clarity and wit. Because he trained as a lawyer before becoming a legal journalist, he is often the first port of call for broadcasters faced with a breaking legal story. He appears regularly on Sky News, the BBC news channel and other news networks in the UK and abroad.
