Time: 6:00 - 8:00pm
Venue: Lecture Theatre, Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary University of London, 67-69 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London WC2A 3JB
Our distinguished speaker for our fourth and final Global IP Law Lecture will be Associate Professor Lior Zemer, who will illuminate us with his lecture on The Intellectual Property Covenant. Where the hegemony of the international society is in crisis and its state-centric agenda and its lack of adequate protection to certain societal needs has intensified a international-world society divide, a redefinition of the contemporary regime of global intellectual property is necessary to expose its preferences and how they harm and often conflict with the norms from which these societies emerged.
In this lecture, Prof Zemer will argue that a coherent regulatory process in intellectual property requires intensifying mutual recognition and interaction between international and world intellectual property societies and their institutions. He will also discuss the growing distance from ethical cosmopolitanism as applied to the protection of intellectual properties from the perspective of moral universalism. Lastly, he will highlight the paradox concerning the relationship between constitutionalizing intellectual property rights and their protection in practice.
Dr Lior Zemer is an Associate Professor and Vice-Dean of the Radzyner School of Law in Israel and a Visiting Associate Professor at Boston University School of Law. He previously taught at the faculties of law in England, Canada and the US. Prior to joining legal academia he served as the assistant lawyer to Judge J.D. Cooke at the European Court of First Instance and Judge S. von Bahr at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. Zemer's research interests include Intellectual property law and policy, jurisprudence, international and European law.
