Time: 2:30 - 5:30pm Venue: Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary University of London, 67-69 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London WC2A 3JB
The Centre for Commercial Law Studies is proud to host the 2015 Banking Law Symposium.
Banks have increased in size and complexity and, as a result, they have become global institutions challenging the reach of national regulators. What have we learned from the Great Financial Crisis? What steps are policymakers taking to avoid similar events in the future? Has the risk culture of banking changed so dramatically that the tools regulators have been using have become too outdated? Are the courts taking a more direct role? Financial penalties and fines, are they taking too high a toll on regulated entities?
The 2015 Banking Law Symposium (BLS) will address the evolution and the balance between regulation and supervision of the financial sector in the post-crisis period. Specific areas to be addressed include the linkages between macro- and micro-prudential supervision, corporate governance, the role of deposit insurers in bank resolutions, capital adequacy and liquidity ratios, and shadow banking.
Since its inception, the goal of the BLS has been to foster a dialogue on important public policy issues affecting the financial services industry. Its programmes highlight a topical theme and bring together well-known academics, policymakers and practitioners.
We are encouraging papers of 5,000 words or less suitable for publication. Information on previous events can be found at: http://bankingsymposium.org/.
