If you are an overseas fee payer who will be joining any taught postgraduate course or a foundation course listed below, you will be required to pay a deposit of £2,000 towards your university fee, in order to secure your place at Queen Mary University of London.
You will only be required to pay your deposit once your place has been confirmed, ie, after you have firmly accepted our offer and met any academic and/or English language conditions. You will receive an email request when you are required to pay this deposit. You should note that we may specify a deadline by which you are required to pay the deposit in order to retain your place. The payment of this deposit may also assist you in applying for immigration permission under Tier 4 of the UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) Points Based System.
If you are in receipt of a scholarship or your fees will be paid by a sponsor, you may be exempt from the university fee deposit. We do however require a formal letter from your sponsor confirming the arrangement.
Fee deposits may not be required for Distance Learning programmes or for programmes delivered outside the UK. Applicants will be advised of any university fee deposit requirements during the admissions process.
US Loans – if your studies are to be funded by loans from the USA, either Federal or Private, you will need to submit a separate application to Queen Mary in order to process this. Your university fee deposit will be deducted from your overall tuition fee cost (for the first year of study) and you will only be required to make arrangements to pay the balance when you enrol.

If you have applied for one of the above courses and have been made an offer of a place you are required to pay a deposit towards your university fees. You should do so after you have accepted your offer of a place at Queen Mary AND met all the conditions outlined in your offer. The admissions office will send you a reminder email when you are required to do so.

Is there a deadline for paying the fee deposit?
For specific clinical programmes, we may specify a deadline by which you must pay the university fee deposit in order to retain your place. If you do not pay by the specified deadline, your place may be withdrawn and offered to an applicant on the waiting list. For all other programmes, the university fee deposit must be paid by the published deadline, in order to ensure that your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) can be issued in good time for you to enrol at Queen Mary.
I am an overseas fee payer – when will I receive my Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)?
If you require Tier 4 Immigration permission, in order to be able to study in the UK, you will need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). This is a unique number which will enable UKVI officers to access information which we have provided about your course. If you are not sure whether you require immigration permission to be able to study in the UK, please refer to our immigration advice.
If your course begins in September, we will not start issuing CAS until the end of April. We will send you instructions on how to request a CAS nearer the time. Further details on this process can be found in your applicant web portal.
Once we have processed your CAS request and received confirmation that your deposit has been paid, you will be asked to verify that your personal and course details are correct via your web portal before we request a CAS from the UKVI. After you have verified this information, you will receive an email to notify you that your CAS statement is now visible in your web portal. You should receive this within 48 hours (Monday to Friday) of you verifying your CAS statement.
Fees paid and the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
Please note that after payment of your deposit, any subsequent payments of university fees will not be automatically reflected in the CAS. Further advance payments have to be manually updated on the CAS and as such you should allow up to ten days for this to happen. Please factor this in when applying for a visa appointment in your home country. If you are concerned that your CAS has not been updated with an advance payment made by either you or your financial sponsor, please email: CAS-Admissions@qmul.ac.uk, clearly stating your full name, applicant ID, programme you have applied for, amount paid and the date of payment. If you do wish to make an advance university fee payment we recommend you do this after you have secured your visa. A CAS cannot be updated once the status has changed to 'Used'.

It is particularly important that you refer to the section headed ‘How Much Money do I need to show?’ found under the ‘Funds for your Tier 4 visa application’ section of the Advice and Counselling guidance document: Applying for Tier 4 (General) Student immigration permission. This will help you to avoid having your visa application refused because you not shown that you have sufficient funds to cover your tuition fee and maintenance costs.
