BUNAC offer work, internship and volunteer opportunities abroad on every continent.  Opportunities for summer programmes exist around the world and include working at summer camps in the USA, teaching English across the globe and volunteering in the arts, sport or conservation.  Some scholarships are available.

Red Tree Study - Spanish Courses, Internships and Academic Programs in Colombia

Dates: Dates vary for each individual programme. Please consult the website. Programmes can vary from 3 weeks to 6 weeks.

Details: Red Tree offers a number of programmes in Colombia, whether you’re looking for a long or short-term Spanish course, a film internship or a peace building exercise. 

Fees: Fees are dependent on the programme selected.

PUC-Rio Brazilian Seminars Summer Program

Dates: Brazilian Seminars course dates: 11 July - 26 July 2019 / Portuguese language intensive course: 8 July - 11 July 2019

Details: Participants have the opportunity to combine the Brazilian Seminars with an optional 20h intensive course of Portuguese language that is offered before to the program start. Through a combination of lectures on different areas of interest, the program provides students, young scholars and international administrators with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge about Brazil and discuss the current issues that are in the global scenario.

US $1,600 (approximately £1,114). Accommodation is available at an additional price and is allocated on a first come, first serve basis.

Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia

Dates: August each year (3 weeks)

Details: UiTM are delighted to welcome QMUL students to experience Malaysia and its cultural diversity through various summer programmes designed in  (but not limited to) the following themes: Culture & art, Biodiversity, Business Management, Technology advancement,  Language. 

Fees: Dependent on course.

The University of Haifa’s International School

Dates: July 2019

 The University of Haifa’s International School will be launching a new language program this coming summer: Intensive July Spoken Arabic. Classes meet four days a week for five hours each day. In order to provide an opportunity for students to actually speak Arabic and immerse themselves in the culture, an academic tour will be offered on the fifth day to locations of interest in various Arab communities in Israel.

International Summer school New Delhi 

Dates: June - August each year. Please see the insitutional website for full details.

For their third year since opening, the International Summer School New Delhi has opened applications for their 6 week intensive summer school programme. The programme will take place at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). The programme offers courses for anyone who is interested in any of the following: Indian Politics, Indian Economy, Sociology and Indian History. In the final 2 weeks, students partake in fieldwork which includes a community outreach programme usually based in Rajasthan. 

Fees: The programme costs approx.USD $2875; accommodation is not included but can be provided at an additional cost.

Universitas Indonesia- UI Creates Programme

Dates: Two sessions in August. For full details please consult the institutional webpages.

Details: UI CREATES is a 2-week program where students of participating universities can earn 3 credits by taking 1 available subject offered by Universitas Indonesia (UI). Students will not only study the selected course, but will also learn Indonesian language and culture, go on cultural visits, and join field study program at selected institutions related to the subject.

Fees: Term 1 is usually approx. USD $500, Term 2 is USD $650 (approximately £400-£500). This does not include accommodation, but does include tuition fee, excursions, lunch, airport transfer and local transportation throughout the programme. Students can apply for a scholarship to cover their accommodation fee.

Nanyang Technological University GEM Trailblazer Summer

Dates: 6 week session: 24 June- 2 August 2019 / 4 week session: 1 July- 26 July 2019

Details: The programme offers 5 course options to Queen Mary students:

Track 1: Chinese Language & Cultural Studies
Track 2: Entrepreneurship & Innovation Asia
Track 3: Creative Design and Media
Track 4: Success in the Globalised Marketplace
Track 5: New Technologies, New World

Fees: Students from partner universities can receive a 60% discount of NTU GEM Trailblazer tuition fees. Please consult their page for exact pricing.

The application will open 15 February 2019 and close on 19 April 2018. Students should consult NTU's website for further information. 

Singapore International Pre-Graduate Award (SIPGA) 

The Singapore International Pre-Graduate Award (SIPGA) supports short-term research attachments for top international students at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), giving you the unique opportunity to experience the vibrant scientific environment in A*STAR Research Institutes and Consortia, and work with distinguished and world-renowned researchers.

Open for application by international students in Biomedical, Science and Engineering related disciplines who are undergraduate students in their third or fourth year, or Master students.


Cornell-Paris I Summer Institute

Dates: 2 July - 27 July, 2019

Details: Students who are ready to change their lives through an intellectually stimulating, immersive experience should attend the Cornell Law School-Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne Summer Institute of Comparative and International Law. This 4-week program provides a unique opportunity for career advancement, personal growth, development, and networking on a global scale. The programme features the most-prolific and renowned legal scholars, an expansive English-language curriculum, and unique cultural and professional offerings. Each year, the Institute welcomes a select group of law students, practicing lawyers and judges from around the world to study law in the heart of Paris. In addition, students can participate in an extensive selection of extra-curricular tours of Paris and social events that enable students to savor "la vie parisienne."
