Global Opportunities Short-Term Bursary

This bursary is generously supported by funds donated to Queen Mary from Santander Universities and the Queen Mary Annual Fund. The Annual Fund is supported by donations from alumni, staff and friends of Queen Mary.

The total Scholarship fund for 2022 is £3,000 and awards range from £400 to a maximum value of £1,000 per student. Students may be offered partial support for their proposed programme.

For more information about eligibility criteria, how to apply and deadlines, please see below:

Students must be fully enrolled on a degree programme at Queen Mary in 2022/23. Applications will only be considered upon submission of a completed application with all supporting documentation.

The bursary is intended to support enrolment in short-term programmes offered by Queen Mary partner universities, through our GO Summer opportunities.

If successful, half the value of the bursary amount will be paid directly to the bursary holder once they have provided evidence of admission to participate in the proposed programme (if this could not be provided at the time of the application). The second half will be paid after evidence of attendance and successful completion. The bursary can be used as a contribution towards the costs of travel, accommodation, subsistence or course attendance.

The main criteria for the award of a bursary is that the proposed project will make a demonstrable and tangible contribution to the student’s studies, personal development, academic interest or employability. Applicants must clearly explain in a personal statement how the proposed programme will satisfy this requirement.

Successful recipients of the Global Opportunities Short-Term Bursary are required to:

1. Use the award as indicated on the application and as stated in the student’s official offer email.

2. Contribute to the promotion of outbound mobility opportunities in order to highlight how the donation from Santander Universities UK/the Annual Fund was used. Your contribution should include a minimum of two of the following activities

• Complete an Instagram Stories weeklong Takeover on @queenmarysummer Instagram
• Create a 3-5 minute vlog of your experience to be published on our YouTube channel
• Produce a written blog post of your experience for publication on Queen Mary Global Bloggers
• Offer your services at forthcoming study abroad fairs, or deliver a presentation to other Queen Mary students on the benefits of participation in your chosen project
• Produce a photo journal of your experience (minimum of 10 good quality photographs, with you featuring in at least 5, with explanatory text) for use on Queen Mary publications, social media and promotional materials

The above contributions will allow the Global Opportunities Office to promote these kinds of opportunities to other Queen Mary students.

3. Provide the Global Opportunities office with sufficient evidence that you attended and completed the programme.

To apply, please fill out the form on the GO Summer webpage. As part of your application, please write a personal statement describing how receiving the Global Opportunities Short-Term Bursary would enhance your academic performance and future employability (Maximum 400 word limit)
