Queen Mary welcomes teaching staff within the framework of any one of the 100+ Erasmus+ inter-institutional agreements that Queen Mary has signed with partner institutions from 15 of the participating Programme Countries. We are pleased to welcome international colleagues for visits usually for up to one week, requiring a minimum of 8 hours of teaching.
Staff interested in teaching at Queen Mary should contact their home institution’s International Office to check if there is an agreement in their subject area and if there is funding available for their visit.
If there is an inter-institutional agreement in place covering teaching staff exchanges, the member of staff can request their home institution to nominate them for a staff teaching visit.
The member of staff and the relevant academic department at Queen Mary must mutually agree on a teaching programme before the visit takes place. The member of staff can arrange this directly with the academic contact in the respective academic department. The sending institution within the respective Programme Country provides all contractual paperwork to the visiting staff member.
The Global Opportunities Office (GO Office) manages the Erasmus+ Programme on behalf of Queen Mary. As the GO Office does not coordinate but oversees these processes for incoming staff teaching visits from within Europe, it nevertheless requests confirmation of approved teaching visits for reference purposes. Therefore, once an incoming teaching visit has been approved, the GO Office requests confirmation (duly signed Staff Teaching Mobility Agreement) for the respective visit to be sent by email to email@example.com.
Staff who are interested in an incoming Erasmus+ teaching mobility to Queen Mary should inquire with their home institution if internal application deadlines exist or if a procedure of open calls is in place for selection to participate in an Erasmus+ Teaching Mobility.
If an incoming staff member wishes to dispense teaching to undergraduate or postgraduate taught students at Queen Mary, they should consult the academic calendar to ensure that the visit takes place during one of our teaching weeks (and to avoid visits outside of term time or during reading weeks).
There is no specific deadline set by Queen Mary by when an incoming staff member needs to be nominated. However, an Erasmus+ inter-intuitional agreement needs to be in place well in advance of the visit if this is not in place. New agreements need to follow Queen Mary’s internal collaborative provision procedures and this process takes a minimum of three months from start to finish.
Accommodation is available for incoming guests from Erasmus+ partner institutions on our Mile End campus in one of the academic guest flats.
It remains the sole responsibility of any selected incoming participant preparing for a visit to the UK to 1) determine their individual visa requirements and 2) to secure any necessary visa.

To supplement the Erasmus+ contractual paperwork and for any eventual purposes of a visa, an invited mobile staff member can request for the relevant department at Queen Mary to provide a letter of invitation including:
This letter may be used for a visa application (if applicable), along with a letter that non-EU participants are urged to request from their home/sending institution that a) confirms the anticipated visit and b) serves as proof and duration of employment in the home country.

Visiting staff are encouraged to share any mandatory occupational health requirements (including but not limited to any disability and dyslexia concerns). This will allow the academic department and the GO Office at Queen Mary to liaise with the Occupational Health Service in advance of their arrival in order to make every effort that sufficient support is feasible and available during the visit.
