QMUL undergraduate and postgraduate students report satisfaction levels in latest national surveys

Results of the National Student Survey (NSS) of final-year undergraduate students ranks QMUL top in London for nine subjects: Economics, French, Finance, German and Scandinavian Studies, Human and Social Geography, Iberian Studies, Materials, Medicine, and Physics and Astronomy. The NSS 2017 ranks both French and Iberian Studies at QMUL top in the Russell Group, with 100 per cent overall satisfaction.

The 2017 Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES) was open to QMUL postgraduate taught students. QMUL-wide satisfaction scores stayed largely consistent with 2016 results, which were much improved on 2015 scores. PTES results for the 2017 survey show that for QMUL, overall satisfaction (based on question 18: ‘Overall, I am satisfied with the quality of the course’) is 82.8 per cent. Respondents were again most satisfied with elements of teaching and learning, which had a category satisfaction score of 81.5 per cent.

Full NSS 2017 and PTES 2017 results, along with summary reports, can be downloaded from the student surveys QMplus module. More information is available on Connect.

UCAS results embargo – important reminder about confidentiality of A-level results

On Friday 11 August, we will receive A-level results from UCAS under embargo for thousands of applicants holding firm and insurance offers with QMUL. The central Admissions team and colleagues in Schools and Institutes will work on processing these results from Friday evening through to Wednesday 16 August. This means we can give our applicants a decision on whether they have a place at QMUL on Thursday 17 August when they find out their A-level results. Many QMUL colleagues have access to systems that enable them to see our applicants’ A-level results during the UCAS embargo period. This runs from 2pm on Friday 11 August to 6am on Thursday 17 August. It is imperative that we maintain confidentiality and do not release A-level grades, or any information that would enable an applicant to infer their results, during the embargo period. This also applies to third parties who might contact a member of staff about an applicant’s place, for example, a teacher, agent or parent. For further information about the UCAS embargo, please contact Joanne Tallentire, Head of Admissions at j.p.tallentire@qmul.ac.uk.

Update on the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

At QMUL, the GDPR will apply to student and staff data in particular, as well as data from research with human participants. More information on the GDPR and how QMUL is responding is available on
