QMUL wins Guardian Universities Award

Congratulations to Dr Guillem Anglada-Escudé from the School of Physics and Astronomy on winning the Research Impact category at the Guardian University Awards 2017. Dr Anglada-Escudé led the study 'A terrestrial planet candidate in a temperate orbit around Proxima Centauri', which outlined the discovery of an Earth-sized planet that may be the closest possible home for life outside the Solar System. The study was published in the journal Nature in August 2016.

Accepting the award on behalf of QMUL, Dr Anglada-Escudé said: “We are very happy to receive this award, which recognises the impact of research beyond academia. It is shared with a number of international researchers and institutions – especially the European Southern Observatory – who also have a dedication and passion for improving how science can be communicated to the wider public. We are driven by a passion and wonder for scientific discovery and will continue to share this with the wider public.” More.
