Exams: challenges and changes

Summary: Over the past two years the student number in Phase 1 has increased dramatically which has had a substantial impact on assessment. As a result I have trialled different question types across a number of exams to establish if there is a way to decrease the marking burden without losing discrimination of questions. I will be presenting the findings of this work, along with how this has been taken forward in the exam papers we write. Furthermore, as the teaching burden has increased the capacity for staff to lead revision activities has decreased. So I will also talk about a few interventions I have used in my teaching to help better prepare students for the exams they are sitting.
