Conference ‘The Future of UK-EU Financial Services after Brexit’

Hosted by Financial Markets Group (FMG) of London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS) of Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), European Banking Institute (EBI) and European Shadow Financial Regulatory Committee (ESFRC)

London has been the financial hub of the European Union, providing corporate, banking and financial services to the European Union.
Following the 23 June 2016 referendum vote, the British government clarified that in leaving the EU, the United Kingdom would also leave the Single Market. This conference, which will take place the Monday (01 April 2019) after the scheduled Brexit Day (29 March 2019), will address key issues on where the UK and EU stand in the field of cross-border provision of financial services.

Topics will include inter alia:

  • The political governance of financial services in Europe, the UK and internationally
  • The implications of Brexit for the supervision of banks and insurance firms operating in both the UK and EU
  • The implications of Brexit for derivatives trading and for clearing and settlement systems in a Europe with new financial borders
  • The implications of Brexit for capital markets and for the fund management industry in the UK and EU.
