Profile

I am a PhD candidate at Queen Mary's Centre for the History of the Emotions, working on histories of human experimentation and the emotions in twentieth-century Britain. My thesis, which intersects with the Centre's 'Living with Feeling' Wellcome Trust Collaborative Award, focuses on civilian involvement in the medical research programmes of the Second World War. Here, I examine how the participation of a subversive collection of experimental subjects - including prisoners, pacifists, and the homeless - influenced discussions of wartime citizenship and belonging.
