Profile

I am a historian of the nineteenth-century United States, working at the intersection of political, intellectual, and environmental history. My research considers how Civil War-era Americans thought about their relationship to the natural world and how this influenced their ideas and actions on a range of important political issues that defined this period.

In addition to my teaching at Queen Mary, I am also a Teaching Associate in the UCL History department and at the UCL Institute of the Americas.
