Published:

Between 29 and 31 March 2019, the BBC Radio 3 Free Thinking Festival took place at Sage Gateshead, this year with the theme of emotion

Professor Thomas Dixon, founding director of the Centre for the History of Emotions, delivered the weekend's opening lecture of the event, 'Feelings, and feelings, and feelings'. You can listen to the lecture on the BBC Sounds website.

Thomas also appeared on the Start the Week programme, broadcast on BBC Radio 4, alongside host Tom Sutcliffe, Harriet Shawcross, William J Burns and Kathryn Tickell. The programme was broadcast from the Free Thinking Festival with audience contributions. This programme can also be heard on the BBC Sounds website.

The 'Living With Feeling' team from the Centre also engaged festival-goers in the foyer with the 'Lost Emotions Machine'. The team will be publishing a blog on this experience on the History of Emotions Blog.

The Free Thinking Festival coincided with the launch of the Centre's new website, 'The Emotions Lab'.
