This module will introduce students to the wide range of visual sources that historians use. Taking London as a case study, and studying topics such as the Great Fire, the cholera epidemics of the nineteenth century, and the Blitz, the module will explore different historical representations of the city and its people and buildings; these will include maps, cartoons, prints, paintings, posters, films, and the buildings themselves. Students will learn important skills relating to visual and spatial analysis, and be introduced to the study of art and architectural history.

Assessment: Source Analysis (1,5000 words) [40%] and Essay (2,500 words) [60%]
