Graduation

On the day

All ceremonies take place in the Great Hall, Mile End Campus. 

You must arrive at Mile End two hours before your ceremony is due to commence. This is to ensure you allow enough time to pick up your ceremony tickets, collect your gown and be seated in the Great Hall 30 minutes before the ceremony is due to start. All students must have a pre-booked graduand ticket and they will not be able to take part in the ceremony without it. 

Step 1. Ticket Collection - People’s Palace
Ticket collection opens 1.5 hours before the start of the ceremony.

Step 2. Gown Collection and Photography - Graduate Centre
Gown Collection in GC201 on second floor, and Photography studios on first floor. This opens 2 hours before the start of the ceremony.

Step 3. Graduation Ceremony - Great Hall, People’s Palace
Please arrive at the Great Hall 30 minutes before the ceremony. Each ceremony lasts between 1 -1.5 hours. Late graduands will not be admitted to the ceremony and will have to defer thier graduation ceremony. 

Step 4. Celebrate your success 
Celebrate with your friends and family across campus.

Step 5. Gown Return - Graduate Centre
Please return your gown after your reception finishes.

As advertised in pre-event communications and on physical tickets, all graduands and guests must have taken their seats in the Great Hall 15 minutes before the ceremony is due to begin. Any late graduands will not be admitted into the ceremony and will have to defer their place. Any late guests will not be guaranteed their assigned seat and may be refused entry.

  • Collect your Alumni card and learn about Alumni benefits.
    Graduation is your first Alumni event and you will be able to join our Alumni network on the day. For more details please visit the following page
  • Collect your certificate.
    Your certificate will be avaliable to collect on the day, from the back of the hall, during your ceremony, or the Student Enquiry Centre after your ceremony. If you have any questions regarding collecting your certificate, please contact the Student Enquiry Centre.
  • Purchase a souvenir.
    'Campus Clothing' will be offering a great range of souvenirs and gifts on the day, many of which can be instantly personalised.
  • Share Your story using our hashtag #QMULGrad
    Capitalise on your big day to receive all likes and retweets you ever wanted with #QMULGrad. Twitter and Instagram posts may be featured in our social media stream on large screens around campus. 

 

Other Info

Please be aware that if you do not wish to shake hands with the Principal on religious grounds when walking on stage, you should carry your graduation ceremony programme in your hand as you cross the stage and he will act appropriately.

What to Wear

Graduation ceremonies are formal occasions and we request graduands and their guests dress appropriately. Academic dress is compulsory to attend the ceremonies.

Jeans and trainers are not acceptable forms of dress for a graduation ceremony.

Please be aware that if you do not wish to shake hands with the Principal on religious grounds when walking on stage, you should carry your graduation ceremony programme in your hand as you cross the stage and he will act appropriately.

Parking and Travel

Please note that there is no parking available at Mile End. You are strongly advised to travel by public transport and the closest underground station is Mile End (served by the Central, District or Hammersmith & City lines) or Stepney Green (served by the District or Hammersmith & City Lines). Please use the TFL website to plan your journey to Mile End in advance using the online journey planner tool.

Blue Badge Holders

A very limited number of disabled parking spaces are available for Blue Badge holders only. If you or a relative are a Blue Badge Holder, you should request a space when you book your graduation tickets by completing the 'Special Requirements' box. Please ensure you are aware of the blue badge number, vehicle registration and vehicle details at the time of booking. You will receive an email confirming your parking space and allocated time slot nearer the time.

Certificate Collection

Attending Graduation 
If you are attending the graduation ceremony and have been awarded a Queen Mary University award you will receive your official graduation certificate at your ceremony.

If you were awarded by the University of London your certificate will be posted within three months of your award date.

Not attending Graduation

If you are not attending the ceremony your official graduation certificate will be posted be to your registered ‘home’ address on your MySIS not ‘term time’ address.

Transcripts

If eligible, your HEAR; digital transcript will be updated shortly after your official results publication date and be available on Gradintelligence once you have activated your account, which you can view and share with other institutions and employers. This is a free service and is accessible indefinitely.

Alternatively if you require a hard copy of your transcript and you are attending the ceremony, you can purchase it from our eshop and bring your online payment receipt to the Student Enquiry Centre with your student ID card and we can produce it. During the Graduation ceremonies, we are open Monday – Friday between 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.

If you require a hard copy of your transcript and you are not attending the ceremony, you can purchase it from our eshop and we can post it to you.
