All ceremonies take place in the Great Hall, Mile End Campus.
You must arrive at Mile End two hours before your ceremony is due to commence. This is to ensure you allow enough time to pick up your ceremony tickets, collect your gown and be seated in the Great Hall 30 minutes before the ceremony is due to start. All students must have a pre-booked graduand ticket and they will not be able to take part in the ceremony without it.
Step 1. Gown Collection and Photography - Graduate Centre
Gown Collection in GC201 on second floor, and Photography studios on first floor. This opens 2 hours before the start of the ceremony.
Step 2. Ticket Collection - People’s Palace
Ticket collection opens 1.5 hours before the start of the ceremony.
Step 3. Graduation Ceremony - Great Hall, People’s Palace
Please arrive at the Great Hall 30 minutes before the ceremony. Each ceremony lasts between 1 -1.5 hours. Late graduands will not be admitted to the ceremony and will have to defer thier graduation ceremony.
Step 4. Celebrate your success
Celebrate with your friends and family across campus.
Step 5. Gown Return - Graduate Centre
Please return your gown after your reception finishes.
As advertised in pre-event communications and on physical tickets, all graduands and guests must have taken their seats in the Great Hall 15 minutes before the ceremony is due to begin. Any late graduands will not be admitted into the ceremony and will have to defer their place. Any late guests will not be guaranteed their assigned seat and may be refused entry.
What to Wear
Graduation ceremonies are formal occasions and we request graduands and their guests dress appropriately. Academic dress is compulsory to attend the ceremonies.
Jeans and trainers are not acceptable forms of dress for a graduation ceremony.
All of the venues used for graduation ceremonies are fully accessible. It is the responsibility of the graduate to inform the Events and Ceremonies Team of access requirements when booking to attend the ceremony.
Also don't forget to:
- Have a professional photograph taken. Photography studios are located on the first floor of the Graduate Centre and open 2 hours before your ceremony starts.
- Collect your certificate.
Your certificate will be available to collect on the day, from the back of the hall, during your ceremony, or the Student Enquiry Centre after your ceremony. If you have any questions regarding collecting your certificate, please contact the Student Enquiry Centre.
- Purchase a souvenir.
'Campus Clothing' will be offering a great range of souvenirs and gifts on the day, many of which can be instantly personalised.

Please be aware that if you do not wish to shake hands with the Principal on religious grounds when walking on stage, you should carry your graduation ceremony programme in your hand as you cross the stage and he will act appropriately.
