Call for nominations

Nominations are now open for the election of 8 academic staff members to Senate, the governing body for the academic matters of the university. The following vacancies are available:

One in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

Four in the School of Medicine and Dentistry

Three in the Faculty of Science and Engineering

These vacancies are open to all academic staff, appointed to full time or part time posts on either a permanent academic contract or a fixed-term academic contract extending at least two years beyond the point at which the call for nominations is made. Although members are elected from particular staff groups, they do not act as a representative of those groups. Senate members have a responsibility to act in the best academic interests of the university as a whole and not as representatives of particular staff, School or Faculty.

The elected staff member on Senate shall serve for a period of office of four years and are eligible to stand for re-election for a second term and therefore a further period of four years. The position is not remunerated.

Individuals wishing to stand for election should complete the Nomination form which includes an election statement and a statement of support from an individual supporting the nomination. The completed form should be returned to Kaya Wiles by email at

The deadline for submitting your completed Nomination form is 6pm on Thursday 18th July 2024. Please note that this deadline will be strictly enforced, and no forms will be accepted after this time.
