Globe goes to Oslo

(Well almost!) We presented a paper at the 18th Nordic Migration Conference (Oslo 10-11th August) on the intersections between research and practice.

It was part of a session on ‘Arts-based migration research’ and we talked about the ways in which Globe captures complex migration stories through her encounters with people from diverse backgrounds living in East London. We also explored how Globe herself is also on a journey and, as for many migrants, what and who she will find on her travels is unpredictable.

Globe is fundamentally an art project not a piece of research per se. Yet she contributes to new ways of thinking about mobility and dwelling in a city shaped by migration. The paper was well-received and people were interested in Globe’s legacy. Will she be exhibited in a gallery or museum somewhere? Or will she herself travel the globe and continue her journeys in other cities? We shall see…
