Following the lines

This project has been inspired by the work of geographers such as Doreen Massey and Denis Cosgrove.

In particular, Globe demonstrates Massey’s notion of a ‘global sense of place’, which challenges the idea of drawing lines around a particular place.

Rather than draw lines to mark out regions or places, Globe does the opposite. Places in East London draw lines directly onto its surface, challenging our perception of home territory and geographical boundaries. Each rotation refers to the local and the global, questioning ideas of who falls inside and outside, them and us.
