Job vacancy: Laboratory Assistant (part time)

Duties

Weekly duties:
- Preparing field equipment under the guidance of the laboratory manager for field courses (some heavy lifting will be required).
- Laboratory cleaning duties (including cleaning of work and floor surfaces, laboratory vehicle and washing up) in both teaching and research laboratories (including CATE and CfM facilities).

Occasional duties:
- Basic water chemistry and soil / sediment analysis
- Demonstrating to, and assisting, final year undergraduate students with basic laboratory analytical and preparation techniques

The post holder must carry out responsibilities with due regard to the College’s Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety Policies. Full training will be given for all analytical techniques.

Post holder must attend college safety courses on COSHH: risk assessment in laboratories and heavy lifting.

Person specification

Qualifications:
Honours degree (BSc) in physical geography, environmental science or related discipline (Essential)

Knowledge:
Experience of working in a laboratory environment (Essential)
Experience of analytical laboratory techniques (Desirable)

Experience:
Good knowledge of laboratory practice, materials and etiquette (Essential)
