The School of Geography warmly invites you to join a celebration of the life and career of our late colleague Professor David M. Smith. Socially Just Geographies will explore David’s role as a scholar, teacher, and activist, his impacts as a shaper of geographical thought and the legacies of his work for geography and the world.

Confirmed speakers include Don Mitchell (Uppsala), Ruth Craggs (King’s College London), James Sidaway (NUS), Sarah Curtis (Durham), Ray Hall (Queen Mary), Jean Hillier (RMIT, Melbourne), Roger Lee (Queen Mary), Brij Maharaj (Kwazulu-Natal), Cathy McIlwaine (King’s College London), Sam Miles (Queen Mary), Chris Philo (Glasgow), David Pinder (Roskilde), Iwona Sagan (Gdansk), Tom Slater (Columbia), Susan J. Smith (Durham) and Catherine Sutherland (Kwazulu-Natal).

During the evening Professor Brij Maharaj (Kwazulu-Natal) will be delivering the 19th David M. Smith Lecture, followed by a wine reception.
