Alastair Owens, Queen Mary University of London and A-level Content Advisory Board for Geography panel member

Eventbrite - Introducing the new AS/A-level in Geography. Discussion with Dr. Alastair Owens, Queen Mary University of London and A-level Content Advisory Board for Geography

Dr Alastair Owens was a member of the A-level Content Advisory Board for Geography which determined the content for the new AS and A-Level in Geography to be introduced in 2016. At this session we will look at the the broad areas of content for the new qualifications, and Dr Owens will outline the reasoning behind the panel’s recommendations. Taking the example of example of the proposed ‘Changing place, changing places’ strand, he will also consider the sorts of issues and topics that new syllabi could address. Overall it is hoped that the session will provide teachers with a better understanding of what the new AS and A-level qualifications hope to achieve, allowing them to begin the process of planning for the introduction of the new courses.

In advance of the session participants may wish to read the report of the A-level Content Advisory Board for Geography and the draft GCE AS and A-level content statement published by the Department for Education (please note that this latter document is being revised following consultation and feedback; the final version is likely to be published in early December).

The event will also include refreshments and time for networking.

All welcome, please circulate to friends and colleagues.
