Monday 29th February, 11am-1pm: Biogeosciences and Ecosystem Services *Applying the ecosystem service approach for improved wetland restorationWhere: Room 2.20, Geography BuildingSession: Inter-tidal wetland ecosystems contribute a wide range of ecosystem services that have significant global economic and societal value but face significant challenges associated with climate change, sea level rise, development and water quality deterioration. This session will explore the biogeochemical ecosystem services provided by these environments and address how this can be incorporated into their valuation.
Tuesday 8th March, 10am-1pm: Flood Risk Management and Modelling *Flood inundation modellingWhere: Physical Geography Laboratories, Bancroft BuildingSession: This class provides hands-on experience with flood inundation modelling using industry standard software. Includes modelling river hydraulics, flood plain flows and designing and evaluating a flood risk model. Numbers are limited due to the practical nature of the classes but several different sessions are available as taster sessions.
* The modules 'Catchment Science in Practice', 'Biogeosciences and Ecosystem Services' and 'Flood Risk Management and Modelling' can be taken on the MSc Integrated Management of Freshwater Environments (IMFE) / PGCert IMFE and PGDip IMFE masters programmes.Find out more:
